1. The trunk has structural defects<\/h3>\n

A cracked, twisted or weakened trunk with significant cavities<\/em> is often the first clue. If you notice cracks widening year on year, or a heartwood core colonised by fungi (white rot, Fomes<\/em> bracket fungi), it is time to ask the question. A trunk leaning dangerously towards a path or a house should be assessed quickly.<\/p>\n

2. The roots are exposed or deformed<\/h3>\n
